Castle hill Adventures
Castle Hill (Kura Tāwhiti) is a favourite of ours to play and explore. We’ve been a few times now and every time we find something new. This time we headed there after a failed attempt at getting Benny up skiing at Porters Pass.
Kaiteriteri loving
When we joined up the NZMCA I found out that one of the campgrounds in Kaiteriteri charges $130 for a weeks accommodation in a powered campsite with Wifi in the off season. As soon as I saw that I knew I wanted to holiday there sometime! It took about six months til we could make it happen, but back in April we spent ten days there.
Caravanning the upper South Island
Over New Years (how was that 8 months ago now!) we headed away in the caravan. I hadn’t spent a lot of time in Golden bay and was keen to explore the area more, and of course take photos of it! Buckle up, there are a HEAP of photos here!
Lupin hunting
I have caught the tail end of the lupins in the Mackenzie country a few times unintentionally, but this year I wanted to see them in their peak! The photos say more than my words ever could, so check them out!
ADHD and me
As I mentioned a couple of blogs ago, I suspect I might have ADHD, even mildly. When I started looking into ADHD for Benny, I started getting targeted posts on social media, and a heap of things started to make sense for me. Some of the things were new revelations, others I knew and finally started putting the pieces together.
How can you support an ADHD brain?
While some people look at ADHD like a superpower and it brings a lot of awesome things to their lives, others find the challenges that come with it, well, challenging. Some people find medication life changing for managing the symptoms, however like most medications there are side effects. Here are some other options that might also be worth looking into.
ADHD: what is it, and is it a trend? pt 2/2
There are varying theories as to what causes ADHD, from some saying its purely a trauma response, and others saying it’s a natural neurological variation. Here are some of the things i’ve seen:
ADHD: what is it, and is it a trend? pt 1/2
In my quest for knowledge, one of the things I’ve been researching is ADHD and other forms of neurodiversity. Part of the reason for this is that neurodiversity is something that premature babies have a higher chance of it happening, and even more in micro preemies.
Can Energy Healing Be from God? A Christian Perspective on the Emotion Code and Body Code
As a follower of Jesus and someone who has personally experienced the power of emotional and physical healing, I’ve wrestled with how tools like the Emotion Code and Body Code fit into a life of faith.
Southland Roadie pt2
While this was our first caravan trip away it definitely wont be our last. We learned a lot, tried some things that worked and others that didn’t. I think the biggest learning though was to move slower!
Southland Roadie pt 1
I love a good roadie! I little under a year ago we bought a caravan with the intention of seeing more of the country, and working out if it could eventually become a full time thing for us. Our first real trip away was down south. It was awesome!
Finding Hope in the Waiting: Navigating Infertility
Infertility is a journey no one expects to take. It’s a road filled with longing, hope, and heartbreak—a cycle of waiting, praying, and often grieving. If you are walking this path, I want you to know: you are not alone.
2025, my goals for the year
A few years back, five to be exact, someone in a group I was in mentioned they had set 20 goals around the number 20, for the year 2020. I totally jumped on board with that and gave it a go. Some were a roaring success (I read 20 novels three times over), some were more of a challenge (I only got to 14 non-fiction books). But I thought I’d revive the challenge for 2025. However, this time there are 20 goals involving the number 25.
my musical journey
God has been taking me on a journey lately. Healing some hurts, lifting my burdens, replacing fear and mistrust with hope, joy and courage. I shared it with a group of people from my church the other day, and that I have no idea what’s coming, but I’m here for it! Here is the journey…
What does a day look like unschooling?
The days vary depending on the day and the week, but some of the regular activities include lego (and a lot of it!), board-games (a growing passion i’m so excited about!), play-doh, painting and drawing, and generally playing with toys.
Why would you choose Homeschooling?
So I started thinking more seriously about homeschooling. In true Erin fashion, I listened to podcasts, I started reading books, I met up with other homeschooling parents and talked to them online. I felt out the idea. I started thinking about what I need to make this happen. I also investigated the alternative.
Hiking the Rod Donald
It feels like forever ago now, but the weekend after we did Woolshed Creek we got out again, but this time for a day hike to the Rod Donald hut. I gotta admit, on the way there I wasn’t as relaxed as I’d like to be about the whole thing. Looking back I wish I had relaxed more too. We had plenty of time, and stopping to smell the roses, or in this case, throw the snowballs, made for a much more enjoyable journey, and more memorable for Benny too!
Marlborough Sounds Break Away
A few weeks back Benny and I joied one of my friends and her two year old for a few days in her family bach in the Marlborough sounds. The only way to get to the bach is to boat in, or walk three days on the Queen Charlotte track. There was no cell phone coverage there and no internet. It was bliss!
Exploring Woolshed Creek
Something I love to do is travel. I also love photography and want to get better at travel photography. Recently I’ve realised that we live in an amazing, beautiful country (duh!) and I can start working on improving my travel photography even without leaving the country. Something I’ve wanted to do for a long time is getting into hiking. When Dave suggested heading away to a hut recently, I jumped at the chance!
Essential Emotions
How often do we identify with something that isn’t actually part of who we are? I realised that I had been wearing my exhaustion like a coat. Holding it tight, unwilling to totally let go of it, even when it wasn’t actually serving me, it wasn’t actually something I wanted to identify with.
