Kaiteriteri loving

When we joined up the NZMCA I found out that one of the campgrounds in Kaiteriteri charges $130 for a weeks accommodation in a powered campsite with Wifi in the off season. As soon as I saw that I knew I wanted to holiday there sometime! It took about six months til we could make it happen, but back in April we spent ten days there.

Split Apple rock is one of my favourite beaches in the world. I’m not totally sure what it is about it that appeals so much. Maybe that it has fun caves to explore, or that you walk through gorgeous bush to get there, but I think part of it is that the beach almost completely disappears at high tide so it gets washed clean twice a day.

Kaiteriteri beach is another good one. Especially the inlet. The water goes into the wetlands area at high tide, which warms up and then flows back out as the tide goes out, keeping the water warmer than normal. And Benny is always a fan of some beach time!

The day before the rain hit we headed to Marahau and walked the first part of the Abel Tasman walk, to Coquille Bay, about a 3.2km walk each way. Such a beautiful part of the world and it’s always so good to explore it. The native bush and the stunning beaches. Love it! I’d love to do more of it sometime.

The following day the rain set in, and it rained, and rained, and rained. We got out once or twice over the next few days, made it to the rock pools which I always love exploring, but mainly it was just chilling out in the caravan. Oh and eating chocolate, because, well Easter!

It’s not always easy keeping an energetic 6 year old entertained in the caravan, especially trying to limit screen time, but it’s definitely always worth it, even when the weather is bad! And the time we get to spend outside is so, so good for the soul!

I’m thinking next trip we need to head to the West Coast and do some more exploring there. Love to hear from you if you have any tips for that part of the country.
